Dr Joe Davis

Joe was one of the original founders of Hunter Laser Vision and since the centre’s establishment in 1998 has been helping patients to become less dependent on their glasses. Joe has been practicing in the Hunter Region for over 30 years and has come to be a recognised and respected name in the fields of Ophthalmology and laser refractive surgery. He is a foundation member of the Australian Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and a well known corneal graft specialist. He has also had over 18 years experience with laser treatment of diabetic retinopathy.

Joe was the first specialist to bring Ultraviolet Light Corneal Crosslinking to the Hunter in 2007, a treatment for corneal condition Keratoconus. This treatment is designed to increase the mechanical stability of corneal tissue. He was also the first Ophthalmic surgeon to introduce Intacs and Kerarings to the wider community, another procedure for Keratoconus patients that can improve the best corrected vision of this group. This is now a regular procedure undertaken by all HLV surgeons.

His achievements within his field have been recognised not only in the Hunter Region but beyond with Joe procuring a place on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list on the 11th June 2012. He was also awarded the OAM Medal in recognition of his service to medicine in the field of Ophthalmology.

He is well-known for his genuine concern for patients both prior to treatment and post operatively, allocating his time generously to make sure that all individuals’ are catered to and their unique needs are met.
