How to Stay in Shape & Protect Your Eyes

May 2016 was Healthy Vision Month, but just because May is passed doesn’t mean that your visual, and physical, health can be left by the wayside once again.
Maintaining ‘health’ with your vision doesn’t actually mean doing exercises for your eyes however; the effects of eye exercises have been proven negligible when it comes to improvements. Instead, diet and lifestyle choices have a direct impact on the health of your eyes.
The best ways to take care of your eyes all year round are as follows:
1. Get eye exams regularly to make sure that no symptoms of age-related or hereditary ailments have occurred
2. Exercise once or twice daily, stimulating your muscles and getting yourself into fit physical shape
3. Eat correctly, and make sure that you’re consuming enough fruits, vegetables and red meats for a balanced diet
4. Quit smoking, or don’t take it up if you haven’t already
Between keeping your body physically healthy, and making sure that you receive regular eye examinations, your eyes will be healthier from the start, and you will reduce the risk of getting some eye diseases. Healthy choices can also reduce age-related vision loss, and slow down diseases like macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
