Astigmatism

Astigmatism causes blurred vision at all distances. This is caused by a “rugby ball” shaped cornea where light rays are focused both behind and in front of the retina.

Treatment for Astigmatism

Astigmatism is most often corrected with glasses or contact lenses, but laser refractive surgery provides you with an alternative. The two most common laser treatments for astigmatism we offer at Hunter Laser Vision are LASIK and PRK. Both procedures are safe and highly effective. You will need a consultation to determine if these procedures are right for you. This will depend on a number of factors including your prescription, eye health, age and lifestyle. If your astigmatism is quite severe we may suggest astigmatic keratotomy, which can be used alone or combined with LASIK. Intraocular lens-based procedures are also used for some patients.
