Switzerland- based company ‘Novartis’ are leading the way in regards to digital technology with the release of their new navigation app that is aimed to help those with visual impairments and compatible for both Apple and Google watches.
Novartis had previously released a similar app ‘ViaOpta Nav’ that was compatible for smartphones, and now with the global interest of Apple and Google Watches, Novartis have updated the app to make it compatible to work on smartwatches!
The app is aimed to assist those with visual impairments to navigate with ease through their day. As stated by the European Forum against Blindness Chair Ian Banks;
“With the help of ViaOpta apps, people with impaired vision can do things such as walk to a nearby café, go to the pharmacy and pick up their grandchildren at the kindergarten- helping to increase confidence and independence and maintaining discretion.”
As well as the standard navigation features, the app also includes details of accessibility areas for the vision impaired such as tactile pavements and traffic lights with sound. This is certainly an exciting advancement in technology for Novartis and a fantastic app to assist those living with a vision impairment!
